Max Mania
Max is finally asleep - 4.25am!
The last two nights was the same thing but not so crazy. He fell asleep early about 9pm and I was really glad to have one baby "down" and only one boy to give my full attention to. But for the last two nights, Max would wake up when I bring him up to sleep in the room with us. That would be about 12am. We blamed it on Micah's endless chatter and music from the Thomas video.
Today, we thought we would be smarter and made sure Micah was asleep before we brought Max up. Boy, were we wrong. The disrupted sleep was not Micah's fault at all. Poor boy got all the blame. In fact, when Max came up and saw that his bro was fast asleep, he did not want to sleep at all. In the last two nights, because we scolded Micah, Max quietly went to sleep along with his bro.
Today, Max insisted that he wanted to be in his swing downstairs, and insisted that Mommy has to be the one to swing him. Daddy would not do. Max just screamed and cried when Daddy carried him. So round one, 12.30am, Mommy took him down. Then the clock chimed at 1am. I saw that Max was getting drowsy, so I brought him up to nurse and thought he would sleep. Nope. He sat up after nursing for 5 minutes and pointed at the door and cried again. Daddy tried to take him again, but there was just more screaming and tugging of Mommy's hand.
Round 2, 1.15am. I took him and swung him for a long time. Max just lay in the swing his eyes wide open. He closed his eyes a little, then he heard daddy turn on the TV upstairs and whatever sleep there may have been just flew out of the window. Finally, 1.35am, Max rubbed his eyes and pulled his ears. a sign of sleepiness at last. "Max, drink nan nan and sleep upstairs, ok?" Max nodded. I picked him up and took him to the room. By now the rest of the house, except the dog in the driveway, was asleep. Max nursed and sat up again. I pretended to be asleep. He just tugged and my hand and cried in the most agonised wail. I gave up.
Round 3. I took him down. This must have been like at 2am maybe. He did not want the swing this time. He pointed at the couch. He nursed there a bit and then crawled off to examine some toys in a basket on the floor. I sat on the couch looking like a zombie. Max just busied himself with a few thing. Then he came and pulled me to the kitchen and wanted something from the fridge. I refused him, but offered him some water, which he refused. I figured this whole thing was just crazy, so we shall not fight. I took Max up to his playroom and sat drowzily on the couch while he played with cars and trains. Eventually I got dragged in to fixing the trains and whispering cheers for some of his achievements.
Finally he had enough. He pulled me back to the room and climbed into bed. I gave him a new diaper and nursed him and he fell asleep within 5 minutes. That was at 4.25am
Now I can't sleep.
