A New Horizon

So news is out.

We will be moving to Jakarta, Indonesia, either by the end of August or September (this is because I am putting Micah's school schedule as priority).
Our "sentence" is for maybe 6 months to 2 years.

This coming week will be the boys' and my maiden trip to step onto Indonesian soil. We will be there for 4 days. I have heard many reports about Jakarta, but mostly negative one:
It's like KL but messier, traffic is worse;
It's very hot and dusty;
I get sick every time I go there;
etc.
Sigh.

This trip we will be staying at a hotel near Gadget-daddy's office. He will be there for work, so I hope he can arrange for someone to take us around to maybe look at some schools and places necessary for food and recreation. We will have to move around by taxi, something new for my boys to experience. :)

At the moment I am still clueless as to where we will be staying in our long term.
"Clueless" best describes what this whole move is to me right now.

Can't even begin to think of packing.

Wow, big changes ahead. I can't tell you what Jakarta is like because the only part of Indonesia that I've been to is Bintan Island for our honeymoon!

Good luck with your maiden trip :)

Wow, big step.

At the very least, you are still going to stick together as a whole family unit.

And also with LCC's available and only a 2-3 hour flight, it's not that far away...

Oh dear.....anyone from Gadget-daddy's office can help?

Maybe give me some idea where you will be and I can give you some clues. after all I am with the UN and I have friends there.

Let me know what your ideas are and I will ask around.

hissychick,

I am a real home-body, and relocation is something I have to battle within me, especially having to re-orientate myself with places and people.

But it's a good move for us as a family unit, to be on our own.

Infant,

Thank you.
Really need that.

our journeys,

Thanks.

I know God will be with us, but it's still a little nerve-wrecking for me to be stepping into the unknown.

Mainly because I don't know what it's like. At least if it's somewhere like Singapore, I will not be as nervous.

jlow,

Yeah, remember how I mentioned that I'm like a "batu" when it comes to moving from all thing familiar? well, guess it's time to do a little rolling and see how things go!

Yes, the main thing is to keep the family together. Mike's dad worked abroad for many years and it was quite bad for the family unit. From day 1, he and I have agreed we will not go down that same path.

ann,

Thanks. Thank for for the offer.

Will ask for help if I do need it.

Wow! Going to live in Indonesia? I've always loved hearing the Indonesian accent...bet you'll pick it up too.

I was in a way fortunate old days only moved to Penang, Singapore, JB, Kuantan and KL...20 years of moving every few years.
But have fun, nice change too and don't worry...its an opportunity for your hubby and your family, experience new places, food etc. Lee.

Chabor, it's just INDONESIA. Could be worse. Think of it as testing the waters. Think of it as an adventure! Kids get to live abroad and experience a different culture first-hand! One of the best ways to grow as a person is to step out of your comfort zone (slap me if I start sounding like one of those New Age pseudo-gurus) - you'll never know what you're really capable of if you just stick to the familiar. Just go - you'll discover reserves you never thought you had!

Wow, I'll be praying for you guys as you head off. Though, I know you are one of the loveliest women I've known and I think you'll be just fine.

Yah, I knew u will have some challenges since you are a homely person plus u mentioned b4 that it's quite difficult for you to depart from friends...

Just have to asks God to help you. It was difficult for me to leave for Russia too plus it's so far away.

You can come home from time to time with Air Asia plus technology is so advanced these days, we can easily get connected with people back home...

I know how u feel...will keep u in prayer.

Wow.... you are moving...mmm... We must get together before you go... Sorry about the picnic again...

maiasaurus rex,

If I was younger, still teaching, no kids and got more money, I would not be as stressed. Actually, if no kids alone will reduce my stress my a great deal. Hahaha...

Adventure, Yes. Moving out of my comfort zone, sure.

With kids, I worry about
safety,
nurture,
nutrition,
environment,
their adjustments,
their missing home i.e. family (on top of my own) and
how to get positive activities for them.

Yes, and it's exactly through that that you'll discover reserves you never thought you had.

pepperboy,

Thank you, my dear, for your prayers and the compliment.

our journeys,

Again, Thanks.

You are one people I've known the longest, and yes, you do know me well. :)

a gift from god,

I don't know if we'll ever call anywhere else home, but for the sake of the children we will look for other green pastures.

maiasaurus rex,

The older I grow, the more reservations and fears I have.

When we were young and carefree, nothing was impossible! We wanted to change the world!!

Maiasaurus Rex said...

I'd just like you to look over what you wrote about Mike on the bike (hey, there's a title for a kids' poem!). You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. All of life is an experiment. The older I get, the more I realise how much truth there is in cliches.

Moomykin said...

maiasaurus rex,

Thank you.

I will face the fears.

I'm just voicing all my stress out here.

Yes, yes. Cliches kinda put things, certain truths, in a nutshell.
