Toddler Art Class @ Home

Today Micah and I did a little painting while Max took an early nap.

Mommy drew the train and Micah painted it. (Anything train is a good motivation for Micah.)

He started with the red caboose then the engine. the two coaches is a mixture of the yellow and red paint. Looks like Annie and Clarabel I thought (from Thomas and Friends).
Mommy help him to pain the mountain. Held his hand with the brush to make the curves for a couple of times and then he did it on his own. Quite a nice colour mix. Then he learnt how to twist the brush to pain the grass.

After that I gave him a blank paper and he painted whatever he wanted.
He wanted to do finger painting. So he started squeezing paint onto his hands, and then needed mommy to help him put more paint onto his palms. His picture:

A couple of Friendly Jellyfish.

Next:

He started with some green circle. I asked him what it was and he said something, but at the end with a few more strokes, I said, hey, that looks like a chameleon. He was happy with it.
It was only at the end of our painting session that I added the branches because there was extra paint.

He asked for more paper. Said he wanted to pain a dolphin. So I helped him squeeze some blue onto the paper. (Forget the pallet.) he was painting the "body" and then decided it was to be a boat and added the blue propeller at the far right. Mommy helped him paint the sea. Again, a couple of rounds with the brush to show him how to do a sideway stroke, and then he did the rest. After that he wanted to paint a dolphin in the sea, but it turned out to be a jelly fish (grey blob).
Mommy: So are you going to paint a dolphin?
Micah: Nope. It's a turtle (green turtle) and it's eating the jelly fish.

Then Max woke up. I got him an empty art block and asked if he wanted to paint something. He said no, but would like a picture too. Train. All Max wanted to do was to squeeze out the paint from the tubes, so he chose the colors while Mommy did the painting for him.

A night train.

After that was the tough part: Cleaning up.

Both the boys had to be showered as we did the painting on the porch and they sat on the ground. Plus they had paint on their hands, feet and face (Max). Not too big a mess this time as I managed to pour away the water before they decided to pour it over their paintings.

Then I went in and it was my turn to nap. Still feeling a bit lethargic from the D and C. It seems it takes about 7-10 days to fully recover from the loss of blood.

Funny how kids learn so quickly....like twisting the brush to do the grass !

And it does indeed look like a chameleon!! :)

Poor you....looks like you really need some time off!

ann,

actually I am not too bad. Just that the battery seems to run out middle of the day then I really need a re-charge.

On Sunday after church I actually fell asleep watching them play. Daddy was doing some work and he had to come to the rescue us all - Mommy tired, grumpy and yelling, boys fighting and making a play-dough mess all over the living room.

Glad God gave us a family with 2 adults in it!

Don't forget to date the paintings and keep them in a safe place!

Cool, I can't wait to do painting with Reese! I are really doing great when it comes to teaching your kids huh? :)

jlow,

Thanks for the reminder. Right now storing is a problem because of some organization, rather, disorganization, of our house. So I hope they'll be "safe" as I stash them away somewhere for now.

a gift from god,

I am actually one of those people who love to work with my hands, i.e. make my own cards etc. so stuff like painting, I enjoy and "impose" on my kids. Hahaha...
(He enjoys it too, but if he could have it, he'd rather just pour paint all over the porch! Macro Art?)

Teaching them is a different thing. It needs effort and some knowledge of what works for your kid. Micah can't sit down to write because it's too boring. I have to scold and nag just to get him to write his name once. Forget about writing exercises, man. Max may do better I think... I hope.

Looks like a fabulous time was had by all. I'm shocking with doing crafts at home at the moment, then again that's what daycare day is for ;)

PS Hope you are starting to feel better physically. A D and C, while a 'minor' op is still a big deal for both your body and mind.

hissychick,

We did have a good time. Thanks. I try to make our time at home fruitful and to keep the boys happy and occupied. I think I only am able to do so because my in-laws chip in with other stuff. One of the plus side of extended family.

Myself, I am getting better, Thank you. Not as lethargic these days. I do try to lie down and rest as much as I can.
